My Letter to Sarah Palin About Stupak
Dear Mrs. Palin:
I am a lifelong resident of Michigan’s first district. I am a twenty-year conservative activist. I am also Bart Stupak’s Republican opponent. As such, I feel it is my duty to inform you of some misunderstanding you are entertaining about Mr. Stupak’s values.
Your recent laudatory comments about Mr. Stupak’s pro-life record are inaccurate. His “pro-life” stance has won him accolades–I even saw him on the blog of the pope, himself. However, we who live within his district know differently. Within the district, Mr. Stupak does not speak according to his pro-life, prima dona script. I personally heard Mr. Stupak say (in Cheboygan) that he would vote for the health care bill EVEN if it did not contain his magic amendment. I
have a recording.
In Escanaba, Mr. Stupak was questioned about why taxpayer-funded abortion is wrong. At that opportunity, he could have said that some people feel abortion is murder. “It is wrong to make people pay for other people’s murders.” He did not. He answered, “Most of the members think it is.” Huh?
The questioner also asked about abortion in the case of an expected deformity of the baby. Mr. Stupak said he would support taxpayer funded abortion in that case. Again, huh?
He’s said all along he was supporting current law, the Hyde amendment, which permits abortion only in cases of rape, incest or anticipated death of the mother. His approval for abortion in OTHER cases demonstrates that he is not only disingenuous about his support, he also does not tell the truth about why he pretends to express it. (I have a recording of this conversation, also.) His record on embryonic stem cell research also makes interesting reading.
During the past election season, Mr. Stupak’s opponent ( I was also on the primary ballot) received a rating of 100% from Right to Life. Mr. Stupak’s score was 24 points lower. Yet, he got the endorsement. This is neither honest nor proper.
Mrs. Palin, Bart Stupak’s pro-life stance is disingenuous. When you make such untruthful comments from the podium you are now paid to occupy, it damages the cause you claim to expound. “Going Rogue” would seem to imply departure from only one party line.
Could it be you’ve taken up another?
Sincerely,
Linda Goldthorpe
Republican candidate for Michigan District 1

Well said.
Wow, I knew Bart was a ‘yes’ man but thought he was genuine on the abortion after the performance on Fox news, but then he voted for the health care anyway. Hmm Good clarification. Did Mrs. Palin get back with you?
No.
You were not harsh at all, and I thank you for standing up and saying what needs to be said. You are to be applauded for that. I have heard of Stupak’s duplicity many times and now his actions have proved that…he did, in fact, vote in approval of ObamaCare without his amendment being attached to it. He is NOT pro-life…unless pro-life now means pro-ending innocent babies life!!
Was Gov. Palin aware of these facts? I know I wasn’t, and I pay very close attention to the pro-life cause.
There’s a huge difference between questioning Palin’s stance as a pro-lifer and actually calling it like you see it. Just because Palin praised Stupak for holding a strong stand (or so it seemed) against the health care bill, doesn’t give you the right to question her pro-life views. Of course, if you’re living in his district, you’re going to know much more about his flip flopping than the rest of us who have only been following the image he’s been selling for the past couple of weeks.
In the end, I think it is crystal clear where Palin stands on this issue. The woman is human so let’s not jump to false accusations as the left always does.
I definitely don’t agree with the individuals who are calling you names for questioning Palin. I am sorry about that and best wishes in the election.
Just some advice to you honey.
Don’t ever ever get Palin’s supporters irritated.
I’m sure Sarah is not happy at the phony Stupak either.

I appreciate any advice. However, I’m not looking for a job. I’m looking for truth. I have a good gig at home…
Maybe Mrs. Palin is not happy with Stupak tonight, but lots of us knew beforehand.

Linda, thanks for the early morning conversation. I plan to get more informed regarding your stand on issues that are important to our country. As for Sarah Palin supporting Stupak – well, I’m surprised and disappointed. What else don’t we know about SP?
Me again…just reading some of the comments regarding Sarah Palin. Linda, you and everyone else has the RIGHT and the OBLIGATION to question ANYTHING politicians say – that includes SP. I respect Palin but she is not above scrutiny.
If you do not have the courage to post comments with oppposing views, then you will never gain any significant readership. There are many other places to post our comments. For example the future congressman of your district will find them amusing.
“Linda says..I appreciate any advice.” Here is some. Stick to being a housefrau, running cranky little blogs and speaking of yourself in the third person. Congress is currently overstaffed with poorly educated, ill-informed, self-important buffoons.
Good for you Linda. Now post the first comment that I made, and those of a number of others who took issue with you, and whom you moderated out. THEN you will have a discussion.
