Border Security & Immigration

Border Security & Immigration
Linda believes staunchly in secure borders. She is against all forms of amnesty and welfare for illegal immigrants, and believes that businesses that hire illegal immigrants should be punished. But she does not support measures that would infringe on the rights of law-abiding Americans.

Linda on: Border Security & Immigration

For our economy, our security, and our sovereignty, the flow of illegal immigrants must be stopped. The most important (and affordable) measure is to remove the incentive for illegal immigration by rescinding all forms of welfare and amnesty for illegal immigrants—this move would save taxpayers billions, and discourage people from illegally entering in the first place. We must secure the border and deport illegal immigrants as well, but in doing so, never infringe on the rights of law-abiding Americans.

It is outrageous that the American taxpayer is required by law to encourage and pay for the welfare of those who broke the law by entering this country—many of whom do not pay taxes. It is an insult to the millions who seek to enter this country legally, who must carefully conform to our immigration laws, that others can simply sneak in and be given free health care. It is an insult to our military that we leave ourselves wide open to attack from within while they are defending us overseas. It is an insult to law enforcement that they are required to aggressively pursue American lawbreakers while at the same time to let illegal occupants stay.

These are more than just insults. These are actions, not words. They are attacks. All of the energy the government spends supporting illegal immigrants comes at the expense of the American taxpayer.

As I said, the first step is to remove the incentive for illegal immigration—no welfare, no amnesty. The beauty of this measure is not only that it would save money rather than spend it, but solves the problem before it starts—it’s much easier to discourage someone from entering, than it is to find and remove them once they have entered. But it is also important that we secure our borders physically.

I do not support measures that infringe on the rights of Americans. I do not support a national ID card, which would infringe on our right to privacy. I have heard of instances where Americans with American passports were stopped at the border because their passports were not considered ample documentation. This is going too far. I do not support aggressive surveillance of Americans in the search for illegal immigrants, because this needle-in-a-haystack approach infringes on our right to privacy more than it would rout out illegal immigrants.

By securing our border and ending amnesty and welfare for illegal immigrants, we can control the illegal immigration crisis without infringing on the rights of Americans and without burdening the taxpayers. To me, this is the most sensible approach.
